Let Goodspeed show you the real Germany – one of the few countries that conveys powerful imagery. For some, it’s the topography of alpine meadows, hops fields, the Rhine, the Black Forest, the Autobahn. For others, it’s the history of the past century which will hang like a millstone around the Germans forever – a history that demands interpretation. For others still, it’s the culture of Beethoven and Brahms, Luther and Melancthon, Max Weber and Max Ernst, and the masters of Bauhaus. Some of us were witnesses: Remagen, VE Day, the Berlin Airlift, Checkpoint Charlie, JFK and Reagan at the Wall, Reunification. The GI’s are mostly home now, but what they left is a nation of people in the center of a free Europe, enthusiastic to greet us with a hearty meal and a stein of fresh beer.
