J.S. Bach: The Great Kapellmeister

Eastern Germany is Bach country. Goodspeed has been working with musicians, artists and local leaders since the fall of the Berlin Wall and our groups have gotten access to sites and events that are out of reach for the average visitor.  Goodspeed’s travelers have performed at Eisenach’s St. George’s Church before the baptismal font where Bach was christened… Crawled in the choir loft of Bach’s wedding chapel…Have been treated to private demonstrations of Baroque instruments played by master musicians. Our enthusiastic travelers have even donne d hard hats and coveralls to “inspect” the renovation of St. Thomas Church in Leipzig where Bach was a choirmaster for 27 years and his children were baptized in the early 17th century font.

Besides Bach and great music of Mendelssohn, Wagner and Liszt, Eastern Germany is a terrific destination for Goodspeed groups interested in art, architecture, culture, history and gastronomy. Bauhaus and Protestantism began in the East. The revolution that took down Communism exploded in the great centers of learning and worship.  Goodspeed provides access for groups visiting Eastern Germany, to the intellectual and political centers o f Berlin, Dresden, Eisenach and Leipzig as well as to fascinating venues in small villages far away from tourists.
